Where did the Week Go?0

Yikes, the second week of school seemed to go quickly!  What filled it up so quickly?

Well, in Media classes, the 1st graders learned about the magic number 2 in Media (because they can check out up to 2 books for up to 2 weeks) and read the story I.Q. Goes to the Library.  They also had their first checkout time, which takes about 30-45 minutes the first few times!  The 2/3 classes got to play I Spy to discuss people and things in the Media Center and how they are used.  The 4/5 classes finished playing the BINGO review game we started the week before and discussed some of their favorite summer reads.

On the administrative side of the Media Center this week, I booked dates for the Book Fair this year, updated our library records, placed a large order for non-fiction books (sponsored by last year’s PTO carnival!), almost finished working on the PTO Web site and finally got my feed reader on the Media Web site to work (and, wow, was that a battle!).  I filmed Mrs. Killian’s morning meeting (to be used on Curriculum Night), upgraded Adobe Reader on a staff memeber’s machine, helped with a PTO PowerPoint presentation, entered several meeting dates into my absence calendar, read book reviews, searched for classroom books on tattling, watched a staff development video on library spaces and weeded unused/out of date books from one of our bookshelves.  I know there is more, but that is what I remember.

I guess it is true that busy hands make the time go faster!  From the looks of it right now, next week will go just as quickly.  Ahhh… to just have a few more hours in the day…

End of the 1st Week0

Ah, the 1st week of the 08-09 school year is coming to a close.  What a great first week it was!  We got to see the brand new 1st graders rung in on the old school bell, met up with friends old and new, and settled into the routine of school.

It’s been a busy week for me, as for everyone.  The first day was the best, getting to meet all the kids for Media classes.  The rest of the week was full of several tasks.  The new magazines have been barcoded and are ready to checkout.  Work on the new Web site’s Upcoming Events and Full Calendar has been progressing slowly but surely, taking quite a bit of time.  We are tracking down some overdue books left over from last year.  We’ve dug up fun books for classrooms to help the teachers and I’ve done a few staff technology one on one lessons.  Mrs. Rivera and I are starting to look at grants for a possible butterfly garden/outdoor learning area.  Whew!  Not bad for a four day week.  Now on to next week!
